High Jewellery
The eclipse collection
Bibi van der Velden enters a new realm with The Eclipse Collection, the House’s debut High Jewellery collection photographed by Paul Kooiker. Inspired by the shifting light of a lunar eclipse and the House’s iconic alligator motif, the collection transforms familiar forms into something abstract, sculptural and extraordinary.
The Eclipse Collection
the passage between light and darkness
Comprising twelve pieces across two six-piece suites, The Eclipse Collection explores the passage between light and darkness. One suite radiates in brilliant white diamonds, while the other sees diamonds gradually give way to grey and black spinels, creating a captivating ombré of shadow and brilliance.
each creation features custom-cut diamonds
Handcrafted in the House’s atelier in 18K natural white gold, each creation features custom-cut diamonds, including precise baguette and step cuts that follow the jewellery’s sculptural curves. Turn a piece over and Bibi’s signature alligator scales reveal themselves, intricately carved into the gold, while hidden diamonds offer unexpected moments of discovery.
Technically exacting yet unmistakably playful, The Eclipse Collection marks a new chapter for Bibi van der Velden, where exceptional craftsmanship meets imagination, and every detail invites a closer look.
Savoir-Faire
Each jewel is handcrafted in 18-karat recycled white gold, intentionally left without rhodium plating to preserve the metal's natural, subtle warmth. Its soft, champagne lustre recalls the ethereal light of the moon, forming the perfect setting for the stones.
The gemstones
WHITE DIAMONDS
Individually selected for their beauty and brilliance, the diamonds are meticulously custom-cut to bring Bibi's vision to life. Precise baguette and step cuts create an almost architectural play of light, their clean lines and mirror-like reflections capturing the movement and strength of the House's alligator motif in a more abstract, sculptural form.
SPINELS
Chosen for their remarkable depth and subtle variations in colour, spinels bring an unexpected dimension to the collection. Each stone is carefully selected to create a seamless transition from luminous white diamonds through smoky greys to the deepest black, mirroring the gradual darkening of the moon during a lunar eclipse.
A gemstone with a fascinating history, spinel was long mistaken for ruby and can be found among some of the world's most celebrated royal jewels, including the Black Prince's Ruby in the British Imperial State Crown. Prized for its natural beauty, brilliance and extraordinary spectrum of colours, it offers a quietly intriguing counterpart to the timeless diamond.
