After 20 years of creating treasures that honour the wild, the wonderful, and the deeply personal, something new is emerging.We’re opening our very first Bibi van der Velden store, in the heart of Amsterdam, launching in September 3rd, 2025.
But this is more than just a store. It’s a sacred space. A home for imagination, for craftsmanship, and for the curious. Think cathedral meets curiosity cabinet, with a twist. Fossil ceilings, secret caves, gemstone relics, and perhaps a mischievous alligator or two.
As we unearth this space layer by layer, we’ll be sharing glimpses of the process here. From sketches and textures to stories behind the materials, this is a slow unveiling. A creative excavation. A build rooted in light, intention, and wonder.

INSIDE THE EXCAVATION
Something’s taking shape behind the dust.
The doors to our first-ever Bibi van der Velden store have opened, just a crack. There’s scaffolding above, dust below, and a moodboard (or three) in hand. Even now, in this raw, echoing space, something already stirs.
I arrived with a sketchbook and a green hard hat topped with a baby alligator, naturally. The vision is beginning to reveal itself: fossil-like textures, cave-like curves, and cathedral-like niches nestled into the walls, waiting to reveal their secrets.
Though the walls are still bare, the light feels sacred. The space is unfolding like a sculpture, slow, thoughtful, full of intention.
A sanctuary in the making.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
The lights are going in. The sets are being installed. A thousand tiny details, each one considered, placed, adjusted, and then adjusted again. As I always say, the devil is in the details, and right now, we’re dancing with him.
At Van Baerlestraat 46, the space is shifting. One moment it’s a building site, the next it’s a temple. With each hour, something new arrives: polished wood, moiré plinths, hidden fixtures, fragments of surprise. Our very first window display is about to be unveiled and it feels like revealing a secret.
The jewellery is finding its place. Each piece carefully cradled, as though it’s being unearthed for the very first time. (Because in some way, it is.) This isn’t just about putting things on display, it’s about revealing them.
Soon, we’ll open our doors with our first-ever Amsterdam Fashion Week launch party. The first of many, we hope. Because once this space is alive, we’ll celebrate often, bringing people together for the unexpected, the beautiful, and the bold.The countdown is officially on. We can’t wait to welcome you in.

BEHIND THE GREEN BAG
If you’ve walked down the Van Baerlestraat recently, you’ve seen it, the oversized green Bibi van der Velden bag covering the hoarding. What you haven’t seen is what’s happening behind it.
We stepped onto the site with our set builders, into a world of dust, cables, and ideas finally becoming real. The terrazzo alligator now guards the entrance (yes, we put an alligator in the floor), and walls are beginning to take shape. It’s the moment when sketches and plans turn into something you can actually touch.
We’re building more than a store. We’re creating a place that tells our story from the ground up, with details you’ll only notice when you’re standing right there.
It’s still early days, but we wanted you to be part of the process, to see the pieces coming together before the big reveal.
